imageYesterday afternoon I saw Eran Gefen’s status which said that he is on a flight from New York to Los Angeles and has Wi-Fi on the plane.

I immediately called him on Skype and we had a smooth video call while he gave me a peek at the view from his window.

Wireless Internet on airplanes is not a new thing. The first attempts were made many years ago and apparently they were ahead of their time.

But recently, step by step, airlines are providing Wi-Fi in all classes for a reasonable price between 5-10 dollars.

You can question whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing (I admit that I like being disconnected from the world for a few hours), but you can’t argue with the fact that this is an outstanding opportunity for new type of applications.

After my conversation with Eran, I wrote this status and that began a fascinating discussion on the development of applications that would revolutionize the flight experience.

Here are a few examples:.

* Search for someone to share a cab with after landing. For singles – search for a date while in the air.

* Get to know other passengers on the plane according to their professional or personal interests. Possibility to combine that with LinkedIn and automatically see who else on the plane is in the same field.

* A game to rate the flight attendants and the pilot. The winner gets a like. A competition who falls asleep first J

* Newspaper and magazine exchange.

* Online Duty-free shopping. In the U.S. you can buy duty free and receive the product by mail.

* Augmented Reality app with Google Earth providing a view under the plane to see what exactly you are flying over. You can also tour the area.

* And of course the whole concept of Cloud Computing takes on a whole new meaning when you are actually inside the cloud…

I am sure that there are many other ideas. Are there any entrepreneurs in the audience? It smells a startup…

Today I was fortunate enough to deliver a keynote presentation at the Israeli Marketing Association conference about digital marketing.

At the end of my presentation, I introduced an inspiring idea…

If someone had told us a few months ago that Facebook and Twitter will be the platform that will enabled Egypt’s revolution to occur, many would say that he was insane.
If someone will tell us today that the social media revolution will lead to an economic revolution and a change in capitalism, many of you will say he is crazy…
But the person saying that is Alex Bogusky. Alex predicted the digital marketing revolution in 2003 (remember the Burger King’s chicken campaign?) and he is one of the world’s most respected advertising professional.
Bogusky, who was a partner at Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, had recently retired and devotes his life to the following idea:
Brand value remains only within the bounds of the company and not shared with society. As consumers are the greatest force in modern economy, the digital age allows consumers to get together and force the companies to operate differently.

clip_image001Do you remember the movie Space Odyssey? A true Masterpiece … At the center of Arthur C. Clarke’s movie is a computer called HAL. A computer with artificial intelligence who can understand, think, speak and express emotions.
Since the movie came out in 1968, we witnessed many examples where computers perform tasks that require a high degree of intelligence.
Computers fly planes; make decisions about stock market investments, recognize faces inside photos, and more. In 1997, IBM’s Deep Blue defeated chess game world champion Gary Kasparov.
But since then, a real computer didn’t have even slightly similar capabilities similar to HAL.
All this was true until yesterday …
Yesterday was the first battle between Watson, the new supercomputer from IBM at Jeopardy, the popular trivia game show in the U.S..
The questions asked in this game are very difficult and complex. The winners of this competition are intelligent people with wide knowledge and analysis capabilities.
So what happened yesterday? Watson defeated the contestants.
Watson is actually a Super Computer which runs on 90 servers working in parallel. He doesn’t express feelings and has a long way to go.
But it represents the first time in history where people can talk to the computer, ask questions and get answers to complex smart and precise.
From this perspective, Watson and the participation in Jeopardy is an historic event. Event which illustrates what future researchers say many years. Humanity is approaching rapidly towards the era in which computers will be intelligent.
As such, they will improve our own intelligence. In addition to Augmented Reality, will witness to Augmented Intelligence. Computers which will enhance our ability to think, understand and make decisions.
Albert Einstein said: I never think of the future – it comes soon enough. This sounds true as ever. The future is approaching with astonishing speed and is stronger than science fiction films…
